Meeting the Uncertainties of the World with Faith
Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. For by it the people of old received their commendation. – Hebrews 11:1-2
Faith is the equivalent to a word that we use quite often—trust. You and I actively trust more than you probably take note of. We trust our food suppliers not to poison us; We trust the driver in the on-coming lane not to wreck into us; We trust our AC units to turn on when the temperature gets too high, we even actively trust gravity every day without actually being aware of it. The question of the Christian Faith is not do we trust anything, but do we trust God more than anything? When God says something are we only inclined to trust it because it’s in line with what we might naturally believe? Or are we inclined to believe Him simply because He said it?
When the food tastes good and you survive lunch; When the 38 drivers you’ve passed don’t slam into the hood of your car; When your feet remain firmly planted on the air-conditioned floor of your home, you’re not too often shocked. But when Christ calls you to trust Him, and believe that even the seemingly bad things in life are happening to you for your ultimate good, does that shock you?
Let’s join together and pray as a church family that we might learn to trust God. To trust Him so thoroughly that we’re more sure of His Word than the fact that our next breath will contain the oxygen needed to sustain our very lives. Let’s pray together that we might learn day in and day out to have full assurance of the things we’re told we should hope for. Let’s pray that the Lord might teach us how to have the kind of faith that grants us a firmly held conviction of things that we might never see in this life. And let’s pray that the Lord might grant us this faith that we too might receive our commendation because of it in the life yet to come.
Much love to you all my family…
